This new research paper, Ascendant Distributions of Ronald Reagan, applies Abu Ma‘shar’s System of Distributors and Partners to the rectified horoscope of Ronald Reagan, testing whether 23 life periods align with 23 Ascendant bound changeovers. These findings defend a Capricorn-rising horoscope (ASC 6° Capricorn 08′21″), refined from earlier work in A Rectification Manual: The American Presidency first published in 2007. Using Janus 6.0 software, the study demonstrates that Reagan’s full biographical chronology—spanning his early lifeguard years to his presidency—corresponds with the mathematical timing of these Ascendant Distributors. The fit is so precise that each second of birth-time adjustment shifts Distributor dates by only one or two days, enabling rectification “to the second.”

The paper begins by contrasting Reagan’s officially uncertain 4:16 AM Sagittarius Ascendant (as published by Edmund Morris and repeated in memoirs by Reagan children Ronald Jr. and Patti) with the Capricorn Ascendant that better matches his disciplined character and measurable event chronology. It argues that the Distributor system provides empirical support for rectified charts by matching distinct life episodes—career launches, marriages, policy reversals, and even historical crises—to bound transitions. Early Capricorn Distributors map perfectly onto Reagan’s lifeguarding years on Rock River, where the Saturn/Capricorn Distributor (1926) coincides with his first lifesaving job and the Mars/Capricorn Distributor (1929) with family financial hardship during the Great Depression.

Subsequent Aquarius and Pisces Distributions trace Reagan’s transformation from Hollywood actor to conservative politician. Mercury/Aquarius (1933) times his first radio job at WOC; Venus/Aquarius (1938) marks his romance and marriage to Jane Wyman; Mars/Aquarius (1947) his divorce and anti-Communist activism; and Venus/Pisces (1954) his GE Theater career—casting him as corporate evangelist for free enterprise. By the Mars/Pisces Distributor (1965), Reagan entered the 1966 California gubernatorial race, defeating George Christopher on June 7, 1966 and Pat Brown on November 8, 1966, events that validated Mars exalted in Capricorn as “the victor” of his chart.

Finally, the Aries cycle (1971–1989) encompasses Reagan’s governorship, presidency, and the evolution from reformer to Cold War warrior. Jupiter/Aries (1971) brings the failed Prop 1 tax initiative; Venus/Aries (1975) his rising moral charisma; Mercury/Aries (1978) the organizational groundwork for his 1980 victory; and Mars/Aries (1983) the decisive military expansion culminating in the MX Missile program and covert Iran-Contra operations—patterns that unravel under the Saturn/Aries Distributor (1986). The study concludes that the Distributor model functions as a “mathematical fingerprint” linking astrology to falsifiable historical evidence. There are a few more projects which require additional rectifications. Top of mind is a complete collection of victors for planets in all signs, both in direct and retrograde motion. The 432 horoscope sample fills out most, but not all, of this project’s requirements.

I anticipate no changes to the original three stage rectification method I proposed in 2007. It is possible that further refinements to the victor model or development of a temperament model might propel me to write a 5th edition of A Rectification Manual. More likely the 4th edition will stand as the final version with any other refinements published on this Substack platform.

Since A Rectification Manual concerns American Presidents, future posts for this Rectification section will present rectified times for contemporary politicians for use by the greater astrological community. Other rectifications for individuals outside this category will appear in the Natal Database section.

As an astrology student, this means if I learned about a particular timing technique, I needed to understand WHAT I was working with and HOW it worked. So comparing my natal horoscope with 50 or 100 events using a dynamic quad wheel - progressions, solar arc directions, transits - was a starting place. Only by taking the time to test events did I realize that accidents tended to happen when malefics transited one of two Mars-Saturn lots assigned to the 6th house of illness and the 12th house of hospitalization. Not transits to the Ascendant degree, Moon, or Sun. And not just ‘near the lot’ but a transit within 5-10 minutes of degree to the exact lot position. This measurement precision assumes birth time accuracy of a few seconds. Findings like this, repeated for horoscopes of dozens of public figures, led to my conclusion that an AA-rated horoscope from Astrodatabank is no guarantee of sufficient accuracy necessary for serious astrological research. Hence I needed to tackle rectification.

Rectification is the reverse engineering of unknown birthtimes by matching actual life events to a theoretical birth time via astrological predictive methods. Rectification assumes the ability of horoscopes to predict the future; for those astrologers who believe in free will and eschew prediction, rectification is of no use. But for those of us who choose to go down the rabbit hole, we need to hone our skills in delineation (“WHAT the chart says”) and prediction (“WHEN it will happen”).

For many people, rectification fine tunes a birth time by a minute or less which has the benefit of increased accuracy of predictions made by directions - whose ‘hit date’ moves aproximately 1 year for every 4 minutes of birth time error. For others, birth times are rounded to the nearest 15 minutes, nearest hour, or are not recorded. Both categories of horoscopes can benefit from rectification.

When I started to work on my rectification book in 2005, the modern astrological rectification toolbox was limited to secondary progressions, solar arc directions, and transits. Since that time, the revival of traditional astrology has uncovered multiple predictive techniques, some unknown for centuries. Not all predictive techniques require an accurate to-the-second birthtime - but some do. Understanding how these techniques work - and how to layer them in the proper sequence for rectification - is what you will find in my book A Rectification Manual: The American Presidency.
