Tonight I finished reading Sabastian Mallaby’s Demis Hassabis, Deepmind, and the Quest for Superintelligence. The chronology and rectification is not yet complete though I will post a trial rectification which will be revised this week.
Hassabis was the co-founder of DeepMind, later sold to Google, and until the arrival of large language models, led the pre-eminent AI global effort. Today DeepMind still lags other AI achievements.
The two major early stories - programing AlphaGo to win the board game known as Go (much harder than chess and very popular in Asia) - as well as his success in modeling protein structure - are detailed in two films available to watch on Youtube. Links are listed at the end of this brief post which will be revised in the next week. Stay tuned.
Preliminary rectification, I plan on updating this in the coming week.
