House of Wisdom is a research project devoted to the testing and development of traditional astrological methods. Its principal focus is predictive astrology: determining which techniques work, under what conditions they work, and where the historical models require modification.
In mundane astrology, the primary laboratory is the Regulus USA National Horoscope, used to develop and test predictive models against American political, economic, and historical events. In natal astrology, the focus is the development and testing of models of delineation, drawing on techniques recovered from Hellenistic, Medieval, and Renaissance sources and testing them against a growing database of timed horoscopes.
The revival of traditional astrology since the mid-1990s has made available a large body of previously inaccessible material. House of Wisdom approaches that inheritance as a research problem rather than a body of doctrine: competing methods are compared, predictions and delineations are tested against events, and techniques that fail to perform are reconsidered or discarded.
The research is organized into several major areas. Regulus USA contains the ongoing work in mundane astrology; Technology & Science and Financial Astrology collect featured horoscopes from the larger Natal Database; and the Natal Database brings together individual horoscopes used to develop and test methods of natal delineation. Additional research on rectification, physiognomy, the soul and astrological theory can be found through the navigation menu above.
For readers new to traditional astrology, some familiarity with Hellenistic and Medieval techniques will be helpful. Courses and materials by Chris Brennan, Benjamin Dykes and Deborah Houlding provide useful introductions to the historical tradition.
